Study on the Strategic Application of ICT for Financial Services in Africa

Vital Wave Consulting was recently engaged by the World Bank, the African Development Bank and the African Union to research and write a study to raise awareness and stimulate action among Sub-Saharan African (SSA) governments and development practitioners, of how ICTs can contribute to the improvement and transformation of traditional and new economic and social activities in the financial services sector. The study recommends ways to scale the successful application of ICTs to further operationalize their use within the financial services sector, while paying appropriate attention to associated risks. The final Finance Sectoral Study is an analytical report that provides a review of existing eFinance programs in Africa and findings on what is required to conduct a successful eFinance program. It identified the skills and knowledge required for policy-makers and implementers to more effectively design and manage eFinance programs. It also provided a summary review of evidence of the impact and effects of eFinance programs and recommendations on how to structure and implement eFinance pilot and evaluation programs.
