Tourism Development in Northern Montenegro
The country of Montenegro wanted to create linkages between northern agricultural producers and tourism providers, and businesses in the south of the country, as well as international markets. Vital Wave Consulting’s Sustainable Tourism practice lead, Christina Heyniger, joined with USAID to formulate strategies for attracting new investment in the north and encouraging the use of northern products and services by central and coastal businesses. Vital Wave Consulting’s team focused on developing and marketing adventure and nature tourism in northern Montenegro. They developed a competitive analysis of northern Montenegro, identifying specific product development strategies for adventure tourism businesses in the region. Recommendations were supported by the results of in-country tour operator product reviews and surveys of inbound tour operators. A destination portal was implemented, bringing all northern Montenegrin tourism service providers online.
